Fat Boys Tire & Auto

Our family business began in 1967

Our family business began in 1967 when Melvin Lenhardt opened the Plains A-Z Tire Company in Cheyenne. The business expanded with a second location in Wheatland in 1971, and later moved into Laramie in 1976. When Melvin Lenhardt fell ill in the late ‘90s, his family sold Plains A-Z Tire and his son went to work for the corporation that bought them out. A few years later, Kirk Lenhardt purchased back their stores in Wheatland, Cheyenne, and Laramie, and rebranded the company as Fat Boys Tire & Auto in 2004, later adding a fifth location in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Names might change with time, but our values don't.

The family business has changed names a couple times, but our core values are still the same.
“Selling tires and servicing cars are secondary to us,” Fat Boys owner Kirk Lenhardt said. “We made a deal with God that, when he sends people to help us and our business, we will help them. Our employees are like family to us.”

Laramie Store Manager Tony Theis has been with the Fat Boys family over 40 years. Cheyenne Store Manager Mike Hartman has been part of the family business for more than 35 years, and several other members of the Fat Boys team have been with the company for decades.

That loyalty has helped Fat Boys become one of the top tire dealers in the region. In 2017, the Independent Tire Dealers Group named Fat Boys Tires & Auto the National Dealer of the Year.

The Fat Boys family is also deeply rooted in the communities we serve. Over the years, Fat Boys has supported hundreds of charitable causes, including the Salvation Army, which named Fat Boys the Cheyenne-area Business of the Year in 2015.

Our Motto

“Our motto is Matthew 6:33, which says, ‘seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all of these things will be given to you’. That’s the foundation of our business and the reason for our success,” Lenhardt said.
